Obituary

Augustine A. Dasta, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, on February 28, 2025.

Augustine was born on February 13, 1942, to the late Jack and Mayme (Rinella) DeCapo. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to Old American Insurance, where she built lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact on those around her.  But above all, her greatest joy in life was her family. She deeply loved her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and she was like a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones and found happiness in simple pleasures. She never missed an episode of Friends, watching it every day, and she shared countless laughs and memories with those she loved.

She also had a deep love for entertainment, whether it was watching television shows, attending live performances, or enjoying classic movie musicals.  She never missed a chance to enjoy trivia nights, watch her family's performances, or relax at the lake. Traveling with her family brought her great joy, and she created countless cherished memories along the way. One of the most special relationships in her life was with her dear friend Mary Ann Draskovich with whom she shared daily conversations multiple times a day for over 50 years.

One thing about Augustine, she never forgot a birthday. Before you could get a word in, she would start the conversation by singing Happy Birthday, making sure you felt celebrated from the very first moment.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Salvatore A. Dasta ; her son-in-law, Tony Carr; her brother, Vincent DeCapo; and her sister, Virginia (Scudiero) Nicholson; her father-in-law and mother in-law, Joseph and Mary Dasta.

Augustine is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Rose (Dasta) Carr; her grandchildren, Maria (Carr) and Jordan Pengra, Erin (Carr) and John Paul Jones II, and Maddison (Carr) and Wyatt Slaven; and her great-grandchildren, Mason and Lilah Pengra, John Paul (III), Mayme, and Josephine Jones, Emory and Noa Slaven. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Rita DeCapo, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Michael O'Donnell;  as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. followed by Visitation from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
