Obituary

Devoted husband and father, Charles M. Samenus, 89, died October 11, 2021. Charlie's love of his life was his wife of 62 years, Katherine Susan O'Brien Samenus , whom he lost in December 2020. He grew up in Kansas City, KS, the oldest of six children. He graduated from De La Salle Military Academy and graduated from Rockhurst College and entered the United States Army in 1954, serving in the Korean War, stationed in Japan as a radar instructor at Camp Moore in Hiyoshi, Japan. After his service, 1954-56, he married Sue in 1958 and together they raised six children in Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Sioux City, IA. He worked as a sales rep in the beef packing industry, with Dugdale Packing Company, Iowa Beef Packers and Tyson Foods. He loved antiques and collectible war memorabilia, Star Trek, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. and Sophia A. Samenus,  and his youngest son, Daniel Samenus. He is survived by his children Michael Samenus, Maribeth Samenus, Stacee Samenus Maude, Jeff Samenus (Shelly) and Stephanie Samenus (Larry Fillipi, Jr.) and 16 grandchildren Alexa Samenus, Luke Chambers, Gabriel Chambers, Dominic Chambers, Sophia Chambers, John Chambers, Candice Stacey, Kristina Maude, Samuel Maude, Kelsey Carpenter, Connor Samenus, Keane Fillipi, Tiffany Granillo, Victoria Fillipi, Adam Fillipi and Charlie Samenus. He also is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Theo Chambers, Evelyn Samenus, Pacey Samenus, Eleanor Fillipi, Sophia Granillo, Olivia Granillo, Nolan Granillo and Sydney Granillo.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 15, preceded at 10:30 a.m. by the Rosary at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO. The service also will be live streamed on the ' St Andrew the Apostle Gladstone MO ' YouTube Channel. Inurnment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N 38th St., Kansas City, KS. Donations may be given in his name to the building fund at St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
