Joanna Marie (LeGrotte) Bonavia passed away peacefully on March 10 th , 2023, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Joanna was born on June 6 th , 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Nettie and Sam LeGrotte. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1959. Joanna married her sweetheart Tony on June 30 th, 1962. She was a lifelong area resident, residing in the Northland for more than 50 years. Joanna worked at Harzfeld's in Downtown Kansas City for several years before she and Tony welcomed their first child in May of 1963. She and Tony went on to have five more children. Later she joined Tony in the real estate business and later they worked side by side at their deli for 6 1/2 years before retiring in 2005.
Joanna had a passion for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was at the height of her glory interacting and listening to them playing and laughing. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, painting bird houses and birdwatching.
Joanna is survived by her children Lisa Mitchell, Henry Bonavia, Joe (Eva) Bonavia, Laurie LaValley, and Jacque (TJ) Myers; grandchildren Stephanie Vint, Carrisa (Randy) Stewart, Brendan (Sarah) Bonavia, Nicholas Bonavia, Vincent Bonavia, Michael Bonavia, Matthew Mitchell, Samantha LaValley, Joshua LaValley, Bryce Myers, Kennedy Myers, Brooklyn Myers, Kensley Myers; great-grandchildren Harper Stewart, Jackson Vint, Colton Vint, Lorenzo Bonavia, Carter Bonavia Anthony Bonavia, Vincent Bonavia, and soon to be Timothy Stewart.
Joanna was preceded in death by her husband Tony ; son Tony Bonavia, Jr.; her parents Nettie and Sam LeGrotte; brother Joseph LeGrotte; nephews Mark and Joey LeGrotte; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Anna and Henry Bonavia.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, at St. James Catholic Church, Liberty MO. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
