Wanda E.
Smith
Dec 22, 1936 — Aug 6, 2024
Wanda Elizabeth Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Wanda was born December 22, 1936, to the late Frank Hide Jenkins and Blanche Elizabeth Lenox, and was a lifelong resident of Independence, Missouri, where she grew up on her family farm. She was part of the first graduating class at Fort Osage High School in 1955. She met the love of her life, Robert, when they were both working at the H. D. Lee Company. Wanda also worked at A & P for many years, went on to cosmetology school and started her own business. In later years, she worked with her daughter in the daycare industry and was a caregiver in the baby room. The families adored Wanda as their child's caregiver, and they loved her dearly.
Wanda's greatest passion was her grandchildren. Her grandchildren always looked forward to spending the weekends with her and Robert. She also enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite destinations were Captiva Island and Disney World.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert "Bob" Smith , in 2016; and her son-in-law Brendan Teevan in 2020. She is survived by her children, Chris Smith (Cynthia), Savana Taylor (Rob), and Gina Teevan; her grandchildren, Madyson Malek (Reed), Eric Zapien, Andrea Strannigan (Thomas), Becky Roney (Kevin), Robby Taylor (Becca), Bailey Teevan, and Delaney Teevan; her great-grandchildren Sam, Charlotte, and Betsy Zapien, Olivia, Keegan, and Kailyn Strannigan, Patrick and Madison Roney, and Brayden and Liam Taylor.
